Hi ,

Have you ever wondered why it is that some people seem to just attract money and success while others work, toil and struggle but still don't seem to get there?

I've come across it many times.

Some people seem to get places, the work they do pays off and they have some satisfaction in life.

Others don't, even though they might be clever, talented and even hard-working.

My friend Janet (not her real name) is like that. She's in her late forties, bright, well educated, funny, hard-working and always researches things well before doing them.

She should be really successful and rich.

She's not.

She's been thrown out of several jobs (or has stomped out herself), has two failed businesses behind her and seems to hold down jobs for increasingly shorter periods.

Despite all of this she will tell you in minute detail how useless other people are, particularly people she has worked with...particularly those who were her bosses. It's never her who has done anything wrong.

Then there are others who also work hard but they work with a will and they work with expectancy. I've also noticed that they often do the work for its own sake too, wanting to do it well because that's a great goal in itself.

They encounter setbacks, sometimes pretty serious, but work through them looking for the way to 'get to yes'.

Of course they don't always succeed and they certainly don't always get rich...in money...but they are more often successful than not and they are invariably successful in friends and helpers when they need them.

Now I'm not saying this as if we at Moneymagpie are all smiley-faced positive thinkers all the time. Ooh no, we've all experienced very tough times. But underneath it we also know that the good we all love is real and that much of the time it's just a question of us being willing to see it.

We keep our eyes open (on your behalf) for the opportunities that most people don't see because they don't believe they're there.

You will notice it in many of our articles such as our 12 tips for coping with redundancy at 50+ or how to make money from misery, as well as how to make money if you have a disability and 6 uplifting ways to keep off the winter blues together with so much more. Take a look!

No one has it easy, whatever it may seem from the outside, but there's SO much more good to life than any of us have noticed it's important to keep our minds open to it.

I think we've only just begun to scratch the surface of how much our thoughts produce our lives...including what we think of as solid physical problems, inherited diseases and more.

For example, did you know that people with multiple personality disorder have different blood pressures, allergies, sight levels and more for each personality? See the evidence in this article from the New York Times.

So if the medically diagnosed allergies, blood pressures, eyesight levels etc are produced in the same body by various different personalities' thoughts, how much of your current ailments have been produced by your one personality's thoughts, beliefs and world assumptions?

Makes you think, huh?

Birth is an area that is definitely governed by thought. Study after study show that the less fear a mother has in the birthing room the less pain and fewer complications there are.

It's even important that those in the room with her are not fearful either as the mother will pick up their thoughts and that can affect the outcome.

This is why studies have shown that having a doula, or birth partner, in the birthing room can reduce the need for caesareans, forceps and drugs. A good doula will help the mother relax and be confident and happy in the experience. This has a notable physical effect.

(Can I just boast for a moment here and tell you that I was a painless birth...yup...that's me...you can check with my mum. Painless - never any problem, me!)

Speaking of which, have you ever considered becoming a doula? We've written an article about how you can get paid to help a new mum, but the first step is getting on a training course.

As a doula you can be one of those who helps the mother relax and gives the baby a healthy start to life.

Love,
Jasmine

PS. Congratulations to Amanda Richardson, the winner of the Newborn Starter Kit competition.

The kit is on its way!
